A site visit by an international external expert commission to the Simulation Center of the Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University took place on March 18–19, 2026, as part of an institutional assessment of compliance with accreditation standards and procedures for conducting self-assessments of educational simulation centers in medicine and healthcare. The standards were developed by the ECAQA based on international experience in simulation-based training and the methodology for expert evaluation of simulation training programs used by the Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM), Denmark, and the Committee for Accreditation of Healthcare Simulation Programs of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), USA, in accordance with the institutional needs and priorities of medical and nursing education and the healthcare system of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The commission was chaired by Asemgul Kaseenova, MD, PhD, a neurologist with the highest qualification category, Associate Professor in the Department of Neurology, and Director of the Institute for Continuing Professional Development at the Astana Medical University. An international expert, Yuri Saratila, PhD, Adjunct Professor at the University Center for Simulation in Medical Education and Deputy Head of Planning, Educational Programmes, and Assessment at the University Center for Simulation in Medical Education at the Nicolae Testemitanu Medical University in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. The commission includes Shyntas Kasym Malikuly, MBA, an expert in simulation-based education, Head of the Training and Simulation Center at the Astana City Akimat Emergency Medical Service, an employer, and a resident. The Simulation Center was previously accredited by the ECAQA and is undergoing the reaccreditation process in 2026 to provide training for students in postgraduate education and continuing professional development programmes.
